Open air concert

Vorgestern waren mein Freund und ich zusammen mit seiner Familie und Arbeitskollegen beim Okean Elzy Konzert im Olympic Stadium in Kiev. Okean Elzy ist eine ukrainische Band die es schon relativ lange gibt und die hier und auch in Russland sehr, sehr populär ist. Wenn man sich das Konzert und dazu die Reaktion des Publikums - UND vorallem das Publikum selber anguckt versteht man einiges über die ukrainische Mentalität. Die Leute kamen fast ausschließlich in entweder traditioneller, ukrainische Tracht oder mit riesiger Ukraine Flagge um den Hals zu dem Konzert. Die Band selber hat ebenfalls ihr Land in einigen Liedern thematisiert. Bands /Sänger mit Botschaften wie “Baby take me higher, you´re my only desire” können zurzeit nicht überzeugen, was wahrscheinlich daran liegt, dass das Land in so gravierenden Krise steht. //The day before yesterday my boyfriend and I went to see Okean Elzy at the Olympic stadium in Kiev together with family and colleagues. Okean Elzy is a Ukrainian band which has been existing for quite a long time now und which is very popular here as well as in Russia. If one watches the concert and the respective reactions of the audience - AND especially the audience itself, you can learn a lot about the mentality of the Ukrainian people. Almost everybody came dressed up in traditional Ukrainian costumes or with huge Ukrainian flags around the neck. The band itself also thematised their country in several songs. Bands/singers with messages such as “Baby take me higher, you´re my only desire” can currently not win people over, which is likely to be related to the fact that Ukraine is experiencing such a huge crisis at the moment. And then we entered the bunny shop...

Ich weiß gar nicht, wie ich das gemacht habe, aber irgendwie ist es mir gelungen meinen Freund zum Kauf von zwei kleinen Häschen zu überreden! Das ist schon seit Jahren mein Wunsch gewesen und jetzt ist es endlich soweit :-) Nini (schwarz-weiß) ist ein Mädchen und Lio (braun getigert) ist ein Junge. Beide sind zufälligerweise am selben Tag geboren worden, dem 5. Mai 2014 und beide sind EXTREM aktiv. Ich weiß, nichts langweilt mehr als anderer Leute Faszination mit ihren Haustieren aber ich werde dennoch ab und zu mal Bilder und Videos posten - da müsst ihr einfach durch;) 

//I really don´t know how I did it but somehow I managed to convince my boyfriend to buy two little bunnies! This has been my wish for many years and now the time has finally come:-) Nini (black and white) is a girl and Lio (caramel) is a boy. Both are born on the same day, precisely 5th of Mai 2014 and they´re both extremely active. I know, there´s nothing more boring than other people´s fascination with their own pets but I will still post pictures and videos of them every now and then - you have to deal with that;)

Ways to relax

Eines der Dinge, die ich in der Ukraine für mich entdeckt habe, ist Malen. Mein Vater konnte wirklich sehr gut malen und hat mir als Kind mal die Grundlagen der Portraitzeichnung gezeigt. Nach meinem ca 12ten Lebensjahr habe ich dann aber nur noch selten gemalt und im Grunde habe ich erst jetzt wieder angefangen. Und es ist wirklich eine tolle Aktivität zum Entspannen. Ich weiß, dass es viele Menschen heutzutage gewohnt sind, sich vor dem Computer / Fernseher / iPad auszuruhen aber am Ende des Tages kann dadurch keine vollkommene Entspannung erzielt werden. Das Gehirn muss sich schließlich weiterhin darauf konzentrieren, ständig wechselnde Bilder zu verarbeiten.Abgesehen davon ist so etwas wie Malen (oder auch z.B. Puzzeln) eine viel belohnendere Tätigkeit denn man hat am Ende ein Resultat. 
Hier seht ihr ein paar Bilder vom letzten Sonntag wo Christina, ihre Cousine Irina und ich einen "Kunst-Nachmittag" gemacht haben. Ich habe die Faber Castell Aquarelle Kreide ausprobiert, die ich Christina geschenkt habe, und ich bin wirklich sehr begeistert. Die Farben sind leuchtend und gut verwischbar. In Berlin gibt es alles zu dem Thema im KaDeWe in der 4ten Etage. Habt noch eine schöne Woche!

//One of the things that I discovered for myself in Ukraine is drawing. My father was really good at it and when I was a child, he once showed me the basic technique of drawing portraits. However, after I turned 12 (I think) I basically stopped drawing until very recently. And it´s really a great activity to relax. I know that many people these days are used to relaxing in front of the computer / TV / iPad but at the end of the day these things can ease tensions only to a limited amount. This is due to the fact that the brain still needs to concentrate quite a bit in order to process all the rapidly changing pictures. Apart from that, things such as drawing (or also puzzling)are much more rewarding activities given that you´ll have a result at the end.
Here you see some pictures from last sunday when Christina, her cousin Irina and me did a little "Artistic afternoon". I tried Christina´s new Faber Castell aquarelle chalk (my gift to her)and I really liked it. The colors are bright and easy to smudge. In Berlin you can buy everything related to drawing and painting in the KaDeWe on the 4th floor. Have a good week!

Little Princesses

Hier sind noch einmal ein paar Bilder von Christinas 8. Geburtstagsparty. Von Tier-Show über Minizirkus mitsamt altem, verbitterten Clown war im Grunde alles vorhanden, was man sich als kleines Mädchen so wünscht. Der Clown war optisch nicht so ansprechend und hat es daher leider nicht auf diesen Blog geschafft. 
Davon abgesehen habe ich nach den zwei Tagen die wichtige Erkenntnis gewonnen, dass die Energie, die aufgewendet werden muss, um ein kleines Mädchen wie Christina zu bändigen, exponentiell mit der Anzahl der präsenten Freundinnen steigt. Diese Verhältnismäßigkeit ist auch gut am Gesichtsausdruck des kleinen Jungen im letzten Bild zu sehen. Sein Name ist Andri. Und ja, er war der einzige Junge...

//Here are some pictures of Christina´s 8th birthday party. This party contained pretty much everything a little girl could wish for including animal shows and a mini circus which was led by an old bitter clown. The latter has unfortunately not made it on this blogpost, given his rather non-aesthetical (he would basically scare the shit out of you) appearance.
Other than that, these two days have taught me an important life lesson: The energy that is needed to deal with one little girl like Christina increases exponentially with the amount of her girlfriends. This relationship is further reflected in the facial expression of the little boy you see on the last picture. His name is Andri. And yes, he was the only boy there...

Classic look

Letzte Wochenende war Christinas bescheidene kleine Geburtstagsparty die sich über zwei Tage erstreckte (mehr dazu demnächst). Bei der Gelegenheit ist mir mal wieder aufgefallen, was die ukranischen Mädchen für unfassbar komplizierte Flechtfrisuren tragen, oft schon ab dem Kleinkindalter. 
Als am zweiten Tag die “Erwachsenenparty” stattfand, dachte ich mir, ich muss auch mal mithalten und habe mithilfe von Youtube versucht mir auch eine Flechtfrisur zu machen. Und für meine Verhältnisse ging es echt klar, ich meine hinten ist sie ein bisschen “unkonventionell” aber von vorne fand ich sie gut. Ich habe mich schon immer am liebsten mit Make Up befasst, vorallem weil ich immer der Ansicht war, dass, wenn das Gesicht attraktiv aussieht, der Rest egal ist. Ich habe mir jetzt allerdings vorgenommen, ein bisschen mehr darauf zu achten weil genau wie Make Up kann eine Frisur ebenfalls eine ganz andere Austrahlung erzeugen.

//Last weekend we celebrated Christina´s modest little birthday party, which extended over two days. On this occasion I once again realised what kind of incredibly complicated braided hairstyles these little Ukrainian girls are wearing, even when they are still very small. When on day two the “adults party” took place, I thought to myself that it´s time for me to also keep up for once. Subsequently, I watched some youtube tutorials and tried to do a braided hairstyle on myself.  The result was quite okay by my standarts, I mean from behind it was a little “unconventional” but from the front it was fine.
I have always preferred doing make up, especially given my prior assumption “if the face looks attractive, the rest doesn´t matter”.  However I am now planning to put a bit more effort into doing my hair because a nice hairstyle may just as well give you a whole different appearance, just as make up does.
