Difficult times for Ukraine

Ich habe jetzt länger als zwei Wochen nichts gepostet was hauptsächlich daran lag, dass die Situation in Kiev und der Ukraine insegesamt total eskaliert ist. Ich war letzte Woche zum ersten Mal wieder auf dem Maidan und die Stimmung war alles andere als euphorisch. Trotz der Tatsache, dass die Menschen endlich ihren diktatorischen Präsidenten losgeworden sind, sah man keine glücklichen Gesichter. Das hatte wahrscheinlich zum einen den Grund, dass bei diesem Kampf viele Demonstranten ums Leben gekommen sind und zum Anderen haben viele Ukrainer dem Frieden auch nicht getraut. Zu Recht, wie wir heute wissen, denn momentan stehen wir kurz vor einem Krieg von dem vor einigen Tagen noch niemand etwas geahnt hatte. Das zeigt, dass die Situation sich jederzeit ändern kann. Demnach ist auch mein Aufenthalt hier zu einem bestimmten Grad ungewiss; sollten die russischen Armeen bis nach Kiev vordringen, müsste ich das Land wahrscheinlich vorübergehend verlassen. Aber wir bleiben alle optimistisch und ich bin mir sicher, dass diese schwere Zeit am Ende des Tages den Weg zur Demokratie ebnen wird. Slava Ukraine.

// I´ve haven´t been posting anything for over two weeks which was mainly due to the fact that the situation in Kiev and the whole of Ukraine escalated completely. Last week, I´ve been to Maidan for the first time again and the atmosphere had nothing euphoric. Despite the fact that the people finally managed to get rid of their dictatorial president, I didn´t see any happy faces. I think this was because this fight has cost the Ukrainians many lives and apart from that I believe that the people were still very much in doubt about whether this was really all over now. As we know today, it was not quite over yet, given that we are facing a war which none of us saw coming. This shows that the situation can change drastically each day. In the same way, my stay in Ukraine has become to a certain degree unsure because if Russian troupes were to invade Kiev, I probably would have to leave the country for a while. However, we stay optimistic and I´m sure that these hard times will eventually lead the way to true democracy. Slava Ukraine.
